Bandwidth usage on VPS

Bandwidth usage is the total amount of data transferred to and from a web server. Every time someone visits your website data is transferred. The data includes images, files, page data and everything else you see when you view a website. Summary traffic is broken up into incoming or outgoing.

  • Incoming traffic is data which comes into a server, as for example when someone downloads a file from the website.
  • Outgoing traffic is data which is transmitted by the server , such as a file attached to an email.

There can specific kinds of traffic consumption, such as FTP-user, Mail, HTTP, FTP traffic, etc. Normally, bandwidth usage is measured in bytes or megabytes, although other units of measure may be used. The service providers represents bandwidth limits in terms of gigabytes.

The hosting providers can set limits on the amount of bandwidth per month that the user's servers may consume. If incoming and outgoing traffic exceeds this limit, the user may be presented with a corresponding warning message or a bill for the overage (depending on the rules set by the server administrator). In the VDS management (VDSmanager) module you can see the amount of moth traffic that a virtual private server can consume. Select a server you need and either double-click it or click the "Edit" icon to see the "Monthly traffic".

This module can be used to view the information on all incoming and outgoing traffic for your virtual private server over a specified time period in the past.View traffic information

IP-address - IP-address that belongs to one of the virtual private servers.
